Acupuncture

Acupuncture is one of the oldest, most commonly used medical procedures in the world. It has been practiced in China for more than 2,000 years, and some experts believe it has been around for 3,000 years.

Chinese culture traditionally recognizes the balance of Yin Yang and a vital energy called “Qi” that flows through the body along 14 main channels, or meridians. In this viewpoint, negative experiences of the body such as discomfort, illness, or injury are largely attributed to blockages along Qi meridians and unbalance of Yin and Yang.

Acupuncture aids in the restoration of balance by unblocking the Qi flow to rebuild your health by inserting very fine needles into the skin to stimulate specific anatomic points in the body.

The term acupuncture describes a family of procedures involving stimulation of anatomical points on the body by a variety of techniques. American practices of acupuncture incorporate medical traditions from China, Japan, Korea, and other countries.

The acupuncture technique that has been most studied scientifically involves penetrating the skin with thin, solid, metallic needles that are stimulated either manually or electrically. This is the technique that is used by Dr. Gao at the Oriental Neurology and Acupuncture Center.
